Image
Brighton-based musician and self-confessed workaholic Matt Finucane is set to release his latest outing “To The Outer World” on April 23 rd 2021. The video from the album’s first single “A Friend From Far Away” can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXGdEdHb2-k Happy to be a “troubadour of disharmony, to confront, provoke, and captivate” (Ring Master Reviews). He takes his influences from Lou Reed, post-punk and Krautrock, and mashes them up into something intense, energetic and uniquely his own. His is a mission to cut through the static with intelligent, gripping, spooky music. For several years now, he’s been DIY-releasing albums at a steady rate, getting airplay on BBC Introducing: South (including a live session with an early version of the band), Kerrang Radio and Resonance FM, among others – plus many rave reviews, many of them stressing that he was more than a cult item and should be heard by a wider audience. Deciding he agreed with this, Matt ...

Black Sun Brotherhood: God & Beast (2020)

Image
(42:06; Metal Blast Records) Norwegian band BLACK SUN BROTHERHOOD is a unit that has been cooking for a few years, with sources stating that the initial incarnation of the band launched back in 2013. Following an initial EP in 2019 they launched their debut album "God & Beast" in the fall season of 2020 through German label Metal Blast Records. My main initial associations when listening through this album properly is that this is a band that either know their Celtic Frost quite a bit, or that they are familiar with quite a few bands that explore the legacy of that band. The lead vocals are gruff, frayed spoken to shouted vocals in a manner perhaps more related to than directly similar to Tom Fischer, but most certainly with many similar features. There are some guitar details used throughout this album that I also associate more with Fischer than anyone else, and then going back to the earliest days of Celtic Frost at that. That being said, good old Venom were perhaps t...

Rome set to release “Parlez-Vous Hate?”

Image
One of Luxembourg’s hardest working outfits, ROME, is back with a surprising new album; “Parlez-Vous Hate?” Bursting with anthems; “Parlez-Vous Hate?” is a tongue-in-cheek, punk rock cry for freedom of expression! After last year’s phenomenal long player, “The Lone Furrow”, no one was expecting Reuter to hit so soon and so hard, but “Parlez-Vous Hate?” delivers on all fronts and is set for release through Trisol Music Group on January 29th 2021.   On why he opted for this direction and the core themes behind the record, Reuter said this:   "I must assume the sound of this record is mostly inspired by the anger and frustration of being locked in for about a year and watching your world crumble. It is not the most positive I ever felt, but at least in the studio, with your friends, for a little while there, you are master of your own destiny."   Track list:     Shangri-Fa     Parlez-Vous Hate?     Born In The E.U.   ...

Joy Shannon set to release new album "The Cave"

Image
American neo-folk artist Joy Shannon is set to release her latest album “The Cave” on her Triple Goddess imprint on December 21st 2020! With a haunting lyricism and stirring melodies that touch on a more ancient time, Joy Shannon creates mythology-inspired dark folk with Celtic harp, voice and cello. “The Cave” is her seventh studio album. This album was recorded at Lava Studios in Copenhagen with producer Christopher Juul, best known for his work with the rousing Nordic folk band Heilung. The cover art was designed by illustrator Adrian Baxter, known for his intricate artwork in the metal genre. Having previously released albums with her Celtic folk band “Joy Shannon and the Beauty Marks”, Shannon chose to create this album alone as Joy Shannon, in step with the theme of the solitary spiritual experience that inspired this conceptual album. “The Cave” was inspired by a revelatory spiritual experience in a cave on the island of Crete, one that bears evidence of ritu...
