German band Inner Axis have a history that goes back to the late 1990's, at first operating under the moniker Midgard, but then switching to Inner Axis in 2008. Since then the band have released two full length albums. This year they are out with the double single "Midnight Hunter / Steelbladed Avenger", possibly in advance of a third full length studio production.

Both tracks document a band that has a firm foundation in more traditional varieties of heavy metal. An energetic variety of 80's heavy metal may arguably be a foundation here, with tight and energetic runs and surges with more of a power metal expression used liberally in both songs as well as a slightly gentler and more melodic variety closer to NWoBHM in general and the sound a band like Iron Maiden explored around their "Somewhere in Time" era in particular.

Both tracks are well executed, although there may have been a slight mishap in the production department somewhere - as I do think a few of the topmost, louder sounds have an ever so slight tendency to break here and there. This isn't a major issue and not all that important, but perhaps a matter worth looking at if these songs are planned for a later album release.

While not spectacular it is a good set of songs we are presented with there, and with instrumental versions of the songs present on the physical edition as an added bonus feature. A double single worth an inspection by fans of classic era heavy metal and power metal.
