Austrian band Sanguinary Trance is an entity of which little is known at this point, but the artist appeared in 2018 just prior to the release of the EP "Wine, Song and Sacrifice". This production is the sole output from this artist as of 2023.

The music we get here has a solid footing inside the extreme metal spectrum, and the three songs on this EP explore landscapes of a similar nature but with a few subtle differences. The entire EP is made with a bit of a lo-fi approach it seems, with the sound being a bit closed in, the growl style vocals placed way down in the mix and the guitars having a bit of a buzzing and cutting sound to them.

Opening cut 'Wine, Song and Sacrifice' play around with tight fluctuating and circulating patterns and harmony overlays, with folk music inspired details present at the start and the end of the song. It is also the longest composition by far, clocking in at the 13 minute mark. 'Carvings' appears to have a stronger focus on fluctuating patterns alone, and I believe that the harmony overlays on this song is a tad sharper and cutting in nature. The concluding 'The Dionysos Whip' is a more chaotic affair, with a dual melodic overlay that has more of a partially harmonized nature while the song itself is a bit more angular and dramatic in overall mode and delivery.

This is a production that should appeal to those who enjoy extreme metal with more of a buzzing sound and sharp, cutting edge to it, and in particular if more of a lo-fi and DIY mix and production style of the kind many would describe as honest sounding is regarded as an asset.
