US band Trita first appeared around a decade back, and from what I can see they released their debut album back in 2014. A succession of EP releases would follow later on, with the most recent of those three productions appearing in 2019. The EP "The Good Night" appeared in 2018. and was self released by the band.
The music explored on this production is one that by and large will be defined as metal I suspect. The opening three cuts all operate with a core set of elements that are explored to a lesser or greater extent, with more groove oriented passages with more of stoner rock tinge to it being a recurring element alongside quirkier and slightly more off kilter riff and rhythm patterns, while the vocals have a tendency to be on the more aggressive side of matters and are delivered with a bit of a hardcore swagger and attitude. An amalgam of hard rock, metal and hardcore if you like, where tight and vibrant arrangements is a calling card and busy, expressive drum patterns a striking feature.
The concluding song on this EP gives us a rather different side to this band however. Here they are retaining the quirky and off kilter riff and rhythm motions explored earlier on, but now explore these tendencies in a calmer, more hard rock oriented manner, with some nice flavoring in the instrument detail department that makes this 8 minute construction an affair with a bit more of a hard progressive rock orientation. The vocals are also reigned in a bit here, with a calmer and more melody oriented mode of delivery.
As Trita entered a state of hiatus in the summer of 2022 chances are that we will never know what direction this band would ultimately settle towards, but on this EP we are treated to two different sides of the band that both are charming in their own way, and with a logical connection between the two forms explored as well, even if they are fairly different from one another on some core levels. As they come across on this production, those who might fancy a band that blend hard rock and stoner elements with hardcore, quirky metal and hard progressive rock should have a field day with this EP.
