French band Dusk of Delusion have been around since 2016 of thereabouts, and have been a consistent unit in terms of creating and releasing new material during their career so far. Three full albums have seen the light of day since the band started, and an additional two EPs have seen the light of day during their run too. The most recent of these EPs is called "Try Your Freedom", and was released through French label Fantai'zic in the fall of 2023.
The cover art pretty much states that this EP is a tie in with the band's previous studio album "COrollarian RObotic SYStem", and presumably it is the continuation of the concept explored on that production that is the lyrical content on this latest creation by Dusk of Delusion. The lyrics are included with the physical edition of this EP, so that those with a deeper interest in delving into the story being told will find it easy to do so due to that.
Musically we are operating inside of an alternative variety of metal somewhere, with the band displaying a great deal of diversity on the 5 songs and one atmospheric mood creation that makes up the content of this production. A couple of the songs feature gentler landscapes with a borderline ballad-oriented expression, with lapses over to or inclusions of hard rock or metal elements as a part of the experience and with synthesizers and more futuristic sounds being a part of the greater picture. Other songs will venture into alternative hard rock and alternative metal with staccato, form riffs being the order of the day, with a little bit of an industrial touch applied at times too. Dusk of Delusion also makes good use of their more aggressive side, with some sections being borderline thrash metal in scope and form while others takes a step or so inside of the hardcore tradition with the musical and vocal details that comes with this specific form of music. With a little bit of a toss-up, mix and blend in between the different elements and traditions described too of course, and arguably a little bit of grunge added to the mix too on an occasion or two.
I do find that the short and concise songs we get here function rather effectively. The numerous changes and alterations we get in each of the songs maintain nerve and tension very well indeed, and the different arrangements and orientations comes across as compelling in their own right too. A well made production with short, concise and varied songs that should appeal to science fiction fans with a taste for alternative metal and metal that is combined with elements from hardcore.
