German band Need2Destroy have been around since at least 2010, and have built up a solid CV as a live band over the years from what I can see. Their studio output has been a bit more rare, with their debut album appearing in 2019 and then in the late fall of 2025 they released their sophomore production "Anti" through German label Fastball Music.
It is a bit of an interesting one this album, and probably one that warrants the alternative sticker applied to it. With the core sound of the band languishing around the border between hard rock and heavy metal. With some caveats and exceptions here and there.
Many of the songs will revolve around a captivating and well developed core guitar riff, either as an ongoing feature throughout or as a regular and dominant presence. With classic era hard rock and early 80's metal being my main associations as far as sound and expression is concerned. Occasionally with a little bit of a post-punk vibe attached, but also with psychedelic inspired undercurrents being a bit of a presence on occasion. But also with space and room for a little bit of a funk twist to be added in on a couple of occasions. Quite a few of the songs will also either explore or include passages with a bit more of a punk rock or hardcore inspired mode of aggression and frenzy.
This latter aspect is very much a part of the lead vocals of the band too, with a firm and hard expression alternating with a more distorted and arguably hardcore oriented aggressive vocal delivery being the norm on the majority of the songs here.
But as this is an alternative flavored take on music, there are exceptions to all of the above of course, and with a fine trio of those that concludes this album. The brief outro 'Bass Interlude' with it's delicate, melodic bass solo is actually a bit of a highlight for me on this album, and the melodic early 80's metal inspired 'El Fin' and the haunting, melodic ballad 'El Cielo' are all highlights from this production as far as I'm concerned.
This isn't an album of the kind that is easy to recommend to a specific music demography, as the band does express themselves in a multitude of ways and manners on this production. But I'd say that those who enjoy hard rock and early 80s metal, and find the punk and hardcore traditions to be equally as intriguing, is an audience that should have a good chance of finding "Anti" to be quite the interesting experience.
