US label Soundologia Records are self described as "collaborative hub dedicated to publishing contemporary and experimental music...(and) serves as a platform for innovative artists exploring new sonic landscapes. The double album "Anthology Volume 3" dates back to the fall of 2025, and is the most recent production released by the label.

What we get here are 18 compositions by 17 different performers, each of them exploring music that exist somewhere alongside the outer boundaries of the experimental borders of the music universe. Many of them are genre defying constructions, if not in full then at least in part. Some exploring less conventional combinations of sounds, others leaving traditional music behind altogether to hone in on the creation of soundscapes where mood, atmosphere and the individual associations of the listener will be the most important aspect in terms of individual enjoyment.

While the opening 'Swagger' strikes me as following in the footsteps of Japanese artist Isao Tomita in many ways, the following two compositions by Federico Bonacossa blends classical and Spanish acoustic guitar tendencies with cosmic and otherworldly sounds. We get some standalone instrument displays as well as a creation for string instruments that perhaps are more closely aligned to the more experimental aspects of classical music too, and later on also a spoken word and relaxed piano driven jazz composition that makes use of both theatrical and poetic qualities on the cut 'Within'. 

These are examples of the material to be found on the Acoustic disc on this compilation, and the Electric part of this creation journey into even more experimental and non-traditional landscapes.

Drones and noise collages of various kinds, some possibly or probably also featuring field recordings or sounds inspired by such sounds is a feature throughout here, alongside such creations as the chopped, radio tuning snippets that dominate Gustavo Matamoros' 'Anatomia de un Deseo'. I did find many of these electric and electronic constructions to be rather intriguing, and as I have a personal affection for material of this type that gives me associations towards post-apocalyptic barren landscapes it is the material with those qualities I found to be most interesting. With  Eden Grey's 'Meditation on a Sequence' Rafa's 'Postbop for Jibaro Progeny 00' being highlights in this category. 

That being said, my personal favorite overall on this double feature is the arguably more jazz and jazzrock oriented 'Circles (For Large Ensemble)' on the acoustic part of this anthology, a creation that captivated me with both the changes and alterations throughout as well as the harmonies and sounds explored in it's various phases.

If music that explore the outer boundaries of music in general and experimental music in particular is material you tend to enjoy, then this anthology by Soundologia Records is one that should have a high chance of being found to be quite the interesting and intriguing experience. Especially if you enjoy music of this kind both in a more acoustic manner as well as in a more non-melodic, experimental and electronic manner.
